Our Founding Principles
The Peace Project began with a belief that many problems become harder to solve when people are divided into opposing groups and lose the ability to cooperate.
We want to explore a different approach.
People do not need to agree about everything in order to work together. Different beliefs, backgrounds and perspectives can coexist with a shared commitment to dignity, peaceful cooperation and practical improvement.
We believe communities become stronger when people contribute what they can — whether that is time, knowledge, practical ability, professional expertise, financial support or simply a willingness to participate constructively.
No individual has all the answers, and neither does the Peace Project.
Our role is to create a framework in which ideas can be proposed, examined and tested in the real world.
We are particularly interested in projects involving affordability, education, sustainable living, community activity, appropriate technology and the responsible use of shared resources.
Our approach is deliberately practical.
We will begin with achievable projects. We will document their development. We will examine costs and results. We will acknowledge mistakes. Where an idea works, we will consider how it can be improved or expanded.
Compassion remains central to the Peace Project, but compassion must be accompanied by responsibility.
We want to build a community in which people are treated with dignity, differences can be discussed without hostility and success is measured by genuine improvements rather than promises.
We are at the beginning.
The credibility of the Peace Project will ultimately depend not on what we say we intend to do, but on what we actually build.
