Introduction
The Peace Project is built around the principle that people who support and participate in building successful community projects should have the opportunity to share in their success.
Membership is intended to provide participation in the Peace Project community and its initiatives.
It is not intended to give wealthier members greater control or greater membership rights.
1. Equal membership
All standard Peace Project membership contribution levels provide the same core membership.
A member contributing £99 per month is not considered more important than a member contributing £5 per month.
Contribution level does not by itself provide additional voting power, preferential treatment or a larger member distribution.
2. Member contributions
Members choose one of the available contribution levels.
The initial joining contribution and subsequent monthly membership payments are collected through Direct Debit.
Direct Debit payments are not instantaneous and may take several working days to process.
Membership access may depend upon confirmation of the relevant payment in accordance with the Peace Project's membership and payment rules.
The selected joining contribution pays for the initial membership period. The same amount then recurs monthly until cancelled according to the applicable membership terms. The first recurring collection is scheduled no earlier than one calendar month after the initial charge date, subject to bank processing dates.
3. Shared success
The Peace Project believes that when eligible projects succeed, members should have the opportunity to share in that success.
Members share equally in the defined proportion of distributable profits that is allocated to an eligible member distribution pool.
The amount a member contributes does not determine the size of their individual share of that pool.
Subject to the applicable governing rules, equally eligible members receive equal shares of a member distribution.
4. Distributable profits
Not every pound earned by a Peace Project venture can or should be distributed.
Before determining an amount available for member distribution, money may need to be used or retained for matters including:
- operating costs
- taxes and legal obligations
- staff and contractors
- equipment
- reserves
- liabilities
- project development
- reinvestment
- future projects
- community initiatives
Only the defined proportion of distributable profits allocated to the member distribution pool is divided among eligible members.
5. No guaranteed profit or return
Peace Project membership does not guarantee that any project will make a profit or that any member distribution will be made. Projects may make a profit, break even or make a loss. Any member distribution is subject to the applicable governing rules, eligibility requirements, available distributable profits and applicable law.
6. Transparency
The Peace Project aims to provide members with meaningful information about the operation of its projects.
Our aim is to show members:
What came in. What was spent. What was reinvested. What was reserved. What was shared.
Financial transparency is intended to be a central part of the project.
7. Member verification
Peace Project membership represents a real person rather than an anonymous online account.
Email and telephone verification help protect the integrity of the community, reduce fraudulent or duplicate memberships and support fair participation.
Verified members receive a permanent Peace Project membership identity.
8. Governing rules
Membership, voting rights, project participation, eligibility for distributions and distributions themselves remain subject to:
- the Peace Project governing rules
- applicable membership terms
- the legal structure of the relevant organisation/project
- applicable UK law
- any project-specific eligibility rules
I have read and agree to the Peace Project Membership Agreement, including the membership contribution, equal membership principles and the terms relating to potential member distributions.
